Quiboloy transferred from Camp Crame to QC hospital due to ‘Life-Threatening’ heart condition

APOLLO Quiboloy, the detained televangelist, has been hospitalized since last week for an irregular heartbeat deemed potentially life-threatening.

Philippine National Police (PNP) spokesperson Brig. Gen. Jean Fajardo announced during a press briefing on Monday that Quiboloy, the self-proclaimed “Son of God” and founder of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) sect, was transferred to the Philippine Heart Center (PHC) in Quezon City on November 8.

A day prior to his transfer, Quiboloy reported chest discomfort while at the PNP Custodial Center in Camp Crame. In response, guards escorted him to the PNP General Hospital, where he underwent an initial medical examination. However, doctors recommended further testing.

“The medical examination conducted by the PNP health service revealed that he has an irregular heartbeat, which may be considered as life-threatening,” Fajardo stated to reporters.

Extension Granted

Quiboloy was moved to the PHC at noon on Friday following an order from a Pasig City court. He is currently facing a non-bailable charge of qualified trafficking and has a pending case in a Quezon City court involving child abuse, discrimination, and exploitation.

Originally scheduled to return to Camp Crame on Monday, Quiboloy’s legal team successfully petitioned the court to extend his medical furlough until November 16, allowing him to complete the recommended medical tests.

According to Fajardo, the 74-year-old KOJC leader suffers from atrial fibrillation with rapid ventricular response, a condition characterized by a rapid and irregular heartbeat that can cause symptoms such as palpitations and dizziness.

She added that Quiboloy is being held in a regular hospital room under PNP supervision. Earlier, the Pasig court denied his request for hospital or house arrest.

Background

In September, Quiboloy surrendered to authorities after a 16-day police search of the KOJC’s expansive compound in Davao City. Alongside him were fellow accused Ingrid Canada, Cresente Canada, Jackielyn Roy, and Sylvia Cemañes.

Quiboloy is also wanted in the United States, where he faces multiple charges including conspiracy to engage in sex trafficking by force, fraud, and coercion; sex trafficking of children; conspiracy; and bulk cash smuggling. A U.S. court issued a warrant for his arrest on November 10, 2021.

Last month, his lawyers filed his certificate of candidacy for the Senate in next year’s midterm elections.
