Quezon City to host ‘Grand Chinese New Year celebration’ in Banawe Chinatown

Quezon City is set to welcome the Chinese New Year with a grand celebration in Banawe, the city’s vibrant Chinatown. The event underscores the city’s commitment to promoting local tourism by offering a unique blend of history, culture, and modern attractions.

The festivities will take place on Wednesday, January 29, featuring a colorful and exciting lineup of activities. The day will begin with a Dance Fit session, followed by a Ribbon Cutting ceremony led by Mayor Joy Belmonte. This event marks the official launch of the redesigned Banawe Chinatown, highlighting its role as a cultural, tourism, and commercial hub in Quezon City.

Visitors can look forward to exploring around 50 food and non-food businesses along Banawe, stretching from Del Monte Avenue to Scout Alcaraz Street. The event will also feature a wishing tree, a 360° photobooth, and insights into what to expect in the Year of the Wood-Snake.

Adding to the festivities, a traditional Dragon and Lion Dance will bring good fortune, followed by a Streetdance Competition showcasing the creativity and talent of Quezon City’s youth.

In the afternoon, audiences will be entertained by captivating performances from a Chinese Face Changing artist, as well as renowned artists Ice Seguerra, Kyle Echarri, and Jed Madela.

The celebration will conclude with a spectacular fireworks display, lighting up the night sky in a fitting finale to a day filled with culture, community, and joy.

To add depth to the celebration, a special episode of Usapang QC will feature Feng Shui Master Hanz and Acting Tourism Operations Officer Giana Barata of the QC Tourism Department. They will share insights into Banawe Chinatown’s significance and history. Mayor Joy Belmonte will also express her hopes and wishes for Quezon City in the show, which will air on the official QC Government Facebook Page on Friday, January 24.
