QCPD nabs suspect in Php732K cable theft; Accomplices still at large

In a recent anti-criminality operation, the Quezon City Police District (QCPD), under Police Col. Melencio Buslig Jr., successfully apprehended a suspect involved in the theft of Php732,000 worth of cable wires owned by PLDT Inc.

The suspect, Raymond Bernardo, 26, a resident of Tondo, Manila, was caught in the act by operatives of Galas Police Station 11, led by Police Lt. Col. Joseph Dela Cruz.

According to the police report, at around 4:00 a.m. on February 27, 2025, Bernardo and his accomplices were seen loading stolen PLDT copper internet cables into a truck, intending to profit from the crime. Fortunately, PS 11 operatives, who were conducting routine patrols, swiftly intervened, leading to Bernardo’s immediate arrest. His accomplices, however, managed to escape and remain at large.

Authorities recovered several stolen cable wires, including:

  • Two pieces of 2121-pair x 0.40-gauge cables (6 meters each) worth Php473,068.00
  • One piece of 2121-pair x 0.40-gauge cable (3.1 meters) worth Php231,535.00
  • One piece of 2121-pair x 0.40-gauge cable (0.7 meters) worth Php27,397.00

Bernardo will face charges of Theft and violation of Republic Act 10515, also known as the Anti-Cable Television and Cable Internet Tapping Act of 2013, before the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office. Meanwhile, PS 11 operatives are conducting follow-up operations to track down his accomplices.

“I commend Galas Police Station 11 for their swift action in preventing a crime that could have disrupted our telecommunications. We will intensify our crime prevention efforts through continuous foot and mobile patrols to ensure the safety of our communities,” Buslig stated.
