The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) is intensifying its urban gardening efforts through a recropping initiative aimed at ensuring a continuous supply of fresh produce while promoting sustainable agriculture among its personnel.
PCOL Melecio M. Buslig, Jr., Acting District Director of QCPD, announced that recropping activities are actively being conducted across various urban gardens within the QCPD Headquarters and its different police stations. This initiative involves replanting new crops immediately after each harvest, maximizing available space, and contributing to food sustainability.
As of January 27, 2025, the QCPD has successfully planted 9,388 vegetable crops and 873 fruit-bearing trees, generating a total harvest value of Php 64,412.00. These efforts not only provide fresh produce but also enhance the police force’s commitment to community service beyond law enforcement.
“Ang recropping sa ating urban gardens ay patunay na ang QCPD ay hindi lang tagapagtanggol ng katahimikan, kundi katuwang din sa pagpapanatili ng isang mas luntiang at mas masaganang Quezon City,” said PCOL Buslig, Jr.
The initiative aligns with the urban agriculture program, which encourages police personnel to participate in sustainable farming practices. Apart from fostering food security, the program is also seen as a means to improve the well-being of officers while reinforcing their role in community engagement and crime prevention.
With its ongoing recropping efforts, the QCPD continues to demonstrate that urban gardening can be an effective tool for sustainability, self-sufficiency, and community resilience.
