QC jail beefs up anti-narcotics drive with QCPDs elite K9 unit

IN a historical collaboration, the Quezon City Jail Male Dormitory (QCJMD) teams up with the combined elements of the QCPD District Explosive and Canine Unit and the Regional Explosive and Canine Unit NCR (RECU-NCR) in deploying K9 Narcotics Detection Dogs (K9 NDD) to deter the entry and proliferation of illegal drugs in jail.

This joint undertaking happened on Tuesday morning, is in line with the mandate of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology to ensure that the jail remains a Drug Free Workplace, strengthened by the commitment of the QCPD District Director Police Brig. General Remus Medina to the QC LGU in protecting its QCitizens- the Juan and Juanas by deterring the transportation and proliferation of illegal drugs in Quezon City.

According to Jail Supt. Michelle Ng-Bonto, since the jail lockdown was implemented in March 2020, the “Paabot System” for the Persons Deprived of Liberty remained in effect. Under the “Paabot” , the relatives of the PDL are allowed to bring raw and cooked foods, medicines and other packages from Tuesdays to Sundays from 7:00 AM to 5:00PM, subject to strict searches and disinfection procedures done by the searchers team.

With the K9 NDD Units in placed, the searching of “Paabot” shall first be undertaken by the trained K9 handlers and partner Narcotics Detection Dogs, followed by the secondary searches of belongings by the Jail Searchers Team, in an effort to deter the proliferation of illegal drugs and other cotrabands in jail.

The BJMP-NCR Regional Director JChief Supt. Luisito C Munoz, strongly supports the collaborative partnership of QCJMD with QCPD, and hopes that the BJMP-NCR Jails shall soon become one of the beneficiaries of the ongoing “QCPD Asong Pinoy Adoption -K9 Narcotics Detection Dogs Training Program”, a one of a kind best practice which can only be found in QCPD.
