Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte ordered immediate contact tracing on the people who converged at the Wil Tower Mall and ABS-CBN audience entrance site two days ago.

The order was given by Mayor Belmonte to the City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (CESU) headed by Dr. Rolly Cruz.

She said the local government will provide free COVID-19 testing to those who were at the area from the night of January 27 up to the morning of January 28, 2021.

In a statement, Mayor Belmonte invited “those who may not have been listed themselves for testing at any of our community-based testing centers so we can prevent the community transmission of COVID-19.”

The people were believed to have rushed to the area upon hearing that Tutok to Win sa Wowowin host Willie Revillame, who celebrated his 60th birthday last January 27, will dole out financial assistance.

Revillame later denied this in his program, saying the people were victims of “fake news” and apologized to the fans who trooped to the site, some of whom came from faraway areas.

Revillame was said to be coordinating with the Quezon City government by giving out the names of those who were at Wil Tower Mall.

The host reiterated that he continuously reminded his fans not to go to Wil Tower as part of precautions to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
