MEMBERS of the PNP Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group (PNP-IMEG) arrested Police Corporal Myrldon Linga Yagi, who was assigned at Station 14, Holy Spirit, Quezon City Police District, during an entrapment operation inside the Barangay Hall Annex along San Simon Street.
The accused cop was caught receiving P2,000 marked money as supposed payment of a complainant so that his fruit stand, located in Barangay Pasong Tamo, will not be dismantled.
The complainant said the money was also for him to get back his mobile phone that was forcibly taken by Yagi.
According to the IMEG, the complainant reported that he was mauled, gun-poked and threatened by the accused policeman.
Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Police General Guillermo Eleazar ensured accountability over the Quezon City police officer and directed a thorough investigation into this incident determine if there are possible cohorts or other cops involved in robbery-extortion in the area.
“Another member of our ranks went astray and placed his profession and our organization’s integrity at risk for a measly P2,000,” PGen Eleazar said.
“We will make sure that he will regret this act of extortion for the rest of his life, especially if it will be proven in the investigation that he did commit the act,” he added.
Authorities were able to seize the marked money, one unit of Taurus 9mm Pistol with serial number TZE 30683, two pieces of magazine with 16 ammunition, a PNP identification card and cash worth P1,635 from the suspect.
Yagi is presently under custody of the PNP-IMEG in Camp Crame while criminal and administrative charges are being readied against him.
PGen Eleazar warned those erring police officers who continue their illegal activities that the PNP leadership will not hesitate to kick them out of the police force.
“More than 5,000 members of the police force were expelled from service for a variety of inappropriate and even illegal activities. We at the PNP will not stop from cleansing our ranks to ensure that our kababayan whom we serve will continue to trust us,” he said.
