PuroKalusugan brings free health assessments to Barangay Loyola Heights

In observance of National Heart Month and National Cancer Awareness Month, the Department of Health (DOH) and the Quezon City Government provided free comprehensive health and wellness assessments to residents of Barangay Loyola Heights through the PuroKalusugan program.

PuroKalusugan ensures that every resident receives quality healthcare services. Health risk assessments—including blood pressure (BP) monitoring, body mass index (BMI) calculation, fasting blood sugar (FBS) testing, cholesterol screening, and personalized consultations with healthcare professionals—were offered to promote early detection and prevention.

The event also featured free maternal health services and early cancer screenings, reinforcing a proactive approach to preventive healthcare. By identifying potential health risks early, individuals are empowered to adopt healthier lifestyle choices.

To further promote well-being, interactive activities centered on TED—Tamang pagkain (proper nutrition), Exercise, and Disiplina (discipline)—encouraged sustainable healthy habits for heart health and cancer prevention. Participants enjoyed an engaging Zumba session, while a live cooking demonstration showcased how to prepare nutritious meals affordably using local ingredients. Kadiwa booths also featured fresh, locally sourced produce, supporting both healthy eating and local farmers.

Secretary of Health Teodoro “Ted” Herbosa emphasized the importance of preventive healthcare, stating, “Reducing the prevalence of heart disease and cancer starts with proactive health measures. Through initiatives like PuroKalusugan, we are ensuring that communities have access to vital health information and services that can improve their quality of life.”

Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte added, “A healthier city begins with informed and empowered residents. Through programs like PuroKalusugan and our calorie labeling ordinance, we are helping our citizens make educated food choices that support their long-term well-being.”
