Public schools conducting face-to-face classes now at more than 25,000

THE number of public schools holding face-to-face classes is now at 25,668 or 56.89 percent of the overall number of public schools in the country.

The number was reported by Department of Educations (DepEd) Secretary Leonor Briones to President Rodrigo Duterte in his Talk to the People last night.

Briones said this is equivalent to about 5,948,640 or almost six million students going to various public schools.

Briones admitted that a big challenge to them are the privately owned schools since out of the 16,000 private schools, only 676 are conducting face-to-face classes, or about 5.47 percent, which is equal to only 226,992 students.

This is why the DepEd continues to encourage the administration of private schools to open their doors already and conduct face-to-face classes next school year 2022- 2023.
