MANUFACTURERS of processed milk and canned meat products are also asking for a price increase for their products.
Other food makers have also sent their request for price increase to the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)
During the Laging Handa public briefing, Assistant Secretary Ann Claire Cabochan of the Consumer Protection Group of the DTI that aside from two canned sardines makers, processed milk or evaporated and condensed milk, and canned meat makers have also asked for a price increase.
Cabochan said they are still studying how much of the total expenses of these manufacturers goes to their expenses such as fuel and other factors like cost of tin cans or containers before making a decision if it will grant the request.
They will also determine whether the request for increase in prices is justified and whether they will allow it or not, or if they will come up with another suggested retail price for essential goods.
Cabochan mentioned that not all businesses are asking for price adjustments for their products.
