DAVAO City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio has confirmed Thursday that she has no more interest to run for a national post after his father, incumbent President Rodrigo Duterte, accepted a vice presidential nomination for the upcoming 2022 elections.

In a Facebook post, Davao City Public Information Office (PIO) Officer-in-Charge Jefry Tupas has revealed a conversation between Sara and reporter RG Cruz, showing the former’s stand about her potential move to run for the presidency.

While her political plans did not waver after his father firmly agreed on the second highest post nomination for him, Sara decided that she will no longer run for neither a higher nor the same position.

The mayor stressed that it was a mutual agreement with her father to have only one Duterte run for any national post in May 2022.

It does not affect any of my plans but as we both agreed only one from the family will run for a national position,” she said in the conversation.

When further asked if her statement meant a withdrawal from her possible presidential run, Sara reiterated that she is not taking a plan to run for any top elective position into consideration.

Yes, I am not running for a national position as we both agreed only one of us will run for a national position in 2022,” she clarified.

On September 8, the PDP-Laban faction led by Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi has proclaimed that the elder Duterte, together with Senator Christopher Lawrence Go, will be their standard bearers for the presidential and vice presidential posts despite the latter’s blatant refusal on the nomination.

Sara remarked that the official declaration “turned out the way the Cusi Faction wanted it to go down”—emphasizing how the political party executed its initial plan to endorse Duterte-Go tandem.

Although the Davao mayor admitted that PDP-Laban will receive no more extensive support from her regional party, Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP), unlike what it did way back 2019, she guaranteed that her relationship with her father remains unchanged.

The same as it was before. Our politics do not interfere with our familial relationship. Iba ang trabaho, iba ang pamilya. Walang personalan,” Sara assured.
