A TOP Palace official announced that President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. has COVID-19.
The president, according to Press Secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles, tested positive for COVID-19 in an antigen test.
She said the president has a slight fever but he is generally okay.
According to Angeles, since the president tested positive, he will isolate himself for the meantime.
She said the president is supposed to meet this evening local government officials such as governors and mayors to discuss the enhancement of vaccination coverage and booster shots as children go face-to-face in the conduct of classes, but he will not be able to attend physically but will attend the meeting virtually instead.
It is expected that Vice President and Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Sara Duterte will join the meeting, together with the Department of the Interior and Local Government and the Department of Health where DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire was supposed to make a presentation.
Dinner should have accompanied the meeting, but this will not be allowed anymore to avoid people from removing their masks.
Even the supposed visit of President Marcos to the US Embassy to attend the 246th anniversary of US independence will not push through anymore.
Related to this, Angeles said the Presidential Management Staff and those whom the president came in contact with were already informed to observe themselves for possible symptoms based on the protocol.
Meanwhile, the son of President Marcos, Rep. Sandro Marcos, tested negative of COVID-19 in his antigen test, while the First Lady Louise Araneta Marcos, Simon and Vincent were not exposed to the disease since they were out of town.
