The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) recently announced that La Nina will continue to be experienced by the country until the March-April-May 2022 season. This means we will be facing the possibility of having above-normal rainfall across the majority of the country.

If you are either moving to another home or buying a new house, you have to make sure the location of the house is a flood-free area. Of course, some people have the option to live in flood-free areas or buy a condominium unit that would lessen their concern about flooding.
Aside from the contingency plans, I also urge homeowners to pursue maintenance on the parts of the house such as the roof before the onset of La Nina. They should also check if the roof needs to be repainted or replaced. You must not forget to also check your home’s drainage system to avoid the hassle of cleaning the waste caused by clogged drainage.
To ensure the drainage in your community will continue to function even in the time of La Nina. We must remember that a drainage system should be ready to absorb a huge volume of water in a short span of time to minimize the damage it might create in the long run.
It would be good if you and your neighbours can organize a meeting with the barangay chairman to get an update on the status of infrastructure such as the drainage system. If there are concerns, the barangay chairman can relay the concerns of the community to the proper authorities.
As far as the Italpinas Development Corp (IDC) projects are concerned, I am happy to say we haven’t experienced floodings. Before embarking on a project, we study the historical data of the project site to determine if it’s flood-free or not. Moreover, we also check the drainage system of the area to ensure if it’s 100% effective
I am proud to say all our projects are well-planned. For example, in Cagayan de Oro, there is a modern and well-planned system that ensures a flood-free environment. Being 110 meters above sea level, Cagayan de Oro has a strategic location that will spare it from a huge flood. Aside from that, our building is well-designed to handle heavy precipitation. I’d also like to mention our latest project in Cagayan de Oro City -the Verona Green Apartments. Located at more than 100 meters above sea level, Verona Green Apartments will be built with a proper drainage system to prevent flooding in the areas. Finally, I also want to mention that Miramonti Green Residences in Santo Tomas, Batangas is also a floodproof project.
