AROUND 83,000 policemen, or 37 percent, of Philippine National Police (PNP) personnel nationwide have been fully vaccinated already against the Coronavirus disease while more than 97,000 are awaiting the second dose of the vaccine.
As of August 18, the PNP has a total of 83,324 or 37.50 percent fully vaccinated police personnel while 97,363 or 43.82 percent are just awaiting the second dose to complete their inoculation.
“This is a great development for the PNP as we encounter deaths and new cases regularly due to COVID-19,” PNP Chief, Police General Guillermo Eleazar said.
“To date, more than half of the PNP have already been vaccinated so now, there is only about 18.47 percent o 41,482 police and non-uniformed personnel are awaiting vaccination,” Eleazar added.
Meanwhile, based on the records of the PNP Health Service (PNPHS), two more cops were added to the list of fatalities due to COVID-19 raising the total number of those who succumbed to COVID-19 to 98.
PNP patient 97 is a 52-year-old intelligence operative assigned in Metro Manila. He was admitted to a hospital on August 14 for immediate medical attention but was pronounced dead on arrival by his attending physician. A post-mortem examination and swab test were conducted which yielded a positive result. He was fully vaccinated on July 14, 2021.
Patient 98 is a 31-year-old female investigator assigned in General Santos City who was tested positive on August 13. On August 5, she was admitted to a provincial hospital due to shortness of breath.
On August 10, the pregnant policewoman underwent an emergency C-section operation and successfully delivered the baby. On August 13, her condition worsened and was transferred to a nearby hospital but she succumbed due to acute respiratory failure.
“We sincerely condole with the families of our police personnel who perished. We have already ordered ever since that when a female police officer and NUP who are pregnant should be working from home already because of the great risks if they will continue to report for work in the office,” Eleazar said.
PNPHS recorded 140 new cases to bring the total cases to 32,760 with 1,983 active cases while 139 recoveries were also noted, raising the total number of recovered personnel to 30,679.
