PNP releases guidelines on the sale and use of firecrackers for the holidays

THE Philippine National Police (PNP) released its guidelines regarding the manufacture, sale and distribution of firecrackers for Christmas and New Year.

PNP Firearms Explosives Office Director BGen. Rommil Mitra said that firecrackers that weigh more than 1/3 teaspoon or contain more than 0.2 grams of explosives are prohibited.

Also prohibited are oversized firecrackers, those with short fuses fully lit in three seconds and those whose fuses that are too long or will take more than six seconds to be fully lit.

Likewise banned are imported firecrackers, those with no labels, or those that contain sulphur or phosphorous and mixed with the chlorates.

Among the banned firecrackers are the Watusi, Piccolo, Super Lolo, Atomic Triangle, large Judas Belt, large Bawang and others.

According to PNP Spokesperson Col Rhoderick Augustus Alba, PNP Chief General Dionardo Carlos already gave the order for the police to coordinate with local government units (LGUs) to determine and assign specific firecracker zones and areas where firecrackers are allowed to be sold.

The PNP assured that they will monitor areas where firecrackers will be allowed this holiday season.
