PNP mourns 60th COVID-19 death; 98 new COVID-19 cases recorded

The Philippine National Police Health Service (PNPHS) said that as of today, May 12, there are now 98 new COVID-19 cases among PNP personnel.

This brings the total number of confirmed cases to 21,416 while another Non-Uniformed Personnel (NUP) died on Tuesday.

Police General Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar, Chief PNP, announced today the death of the 48-year-old NUP assigned in Quezon Provincial Police Office, the 60th fatality of PNP who succumbed due to COVID-19.

According to the report submitted to the PNP Health Service, the NUP was tested positive of COVID-19 on May 8, 2021.

On May 6, he went to a nearby Rural Health Unit and sought medical assistance due to fever and dry cough but immediately on the same day, he was advised to be confined at a nearby hospital where he underwent a swab test.

On May 11, the fatality suffered difficulty in breathing despite oxygen support and at 4:00 in the afternoon, the NUP was declared dead by the attending physician.

We express our deepest condolences to the bereaved family. Our Non-Uniformed Personnel, being the backbone of the PNP organization, are also risking their lives during their render of duty in their respective unit.” Eleazar said.

The PNPHS also recorded a total of 117 recoveries bringing the total recoveries to 19,920. Meanwhile there are still 1,436 active COVID-19 cases in the PNP.
