Original Pilipino Music (OPM) icon April Boy Regino passed away at the age of 51, according to a Facebook post made today by his brother, Vingo Regino.
“Nakakalungkot naman ang araw na ito, wala na ang kuya april boy ko,” Vingo said in his FB post.
Regino retired from showbiz after being diagnosed with prostate cancer back in 2009. In 2015, he was diagnosed with diabetes, which caused him to slowly lose his eyesight.
April Boy Regino, or Dennis Regino Magloyuan Magdaraog in real life, popularized several novelty songs such as “Paano ang Puso Ko,” “Umiiyak Ang Puso,” “Di Ko Kayang Tanggapin” and “Ye Ye Vonnel.”
He and his two other brothers formed the group “April Boys” who became popular back in the ’90s.
In 2004, his whole family migrated to Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.
