THE Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) Quezon City Council has expressed full support for the re-election bid of Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte.
In a statement, the group reiterated its full support and loyalty to Belmonte following its City Council meeting last February 27, 2022.
“We have unanimously agreed to endorse and support the bid of Mayor Joy Belmonte,” the group said.
The statement was signed by Abbin Dalhani, president; Jojo Abad, vice president; Nestor Revilla, secretary general; Gilbert PE Aguirre, treasurer; Brian Lu, chairman of political affairs committee; Marc Anthony Maclang, chairman of membership committee and its officers from the city’s different districts.
The group believes that the improvements, growth and achievements of the Belmonte administration, despite the trying times due to the pandemic, must continue.
“The gains and progress championed by her leadership, is at the risk of total regress, unless it is ascertained that she is re-elected and her leadership qualities and traits will continually push the development of Quezon City,” the group stressed.
Belmonte’s bid for a fresh three-year term also received support from an alliance of broadcast and allied workers in the country.
In its Executive Committee Resolution No. 001-2022, the National Alliance of Broadcast Unions (NABU) agreed to support the candidacy of Belmonte in the upcoming May elections.
NABU is the umbrella organization of all broadcast workers unions, including IBC-13, GMA-7, ABS-CBN, TV5 and PTV-4.
The resolution, presented to Mayor Belmonte recently, was signed by NABU officials, led by its president Generoso Villanueva Jr.; Alberto Liboon, vice president for internals; Joebert Embile, secretary general; Manuel Maranan , treasurer; Manuel dela Cruz, assistant treasurer; Paulo Valero, auditor; and Enrico Latina, public relations officer.
The resolution was passed and approved after the meeting of NABU’s Executive Committee.
In the meeting, NABU underscored the importance of active workers’ participation in the molding of public opinion and passage of laws for the promotion of broadcast and allied workers in the Philippines.
Belmonte earlier backed the renewal of ABS-CBN’s franchise, noting that the company is one of the city’s top taxpayers, and employs thousands of our city’s constituents, whose families would suffer should its legislative franchise not be renewed.
She underscored that by tradition, Quezon City is known as a bastion of freedom, knowledge, and diversity, and the presence of multiple media networks in QC embodies these values.
“Lubos tayong nagpapasalamat sa PDP-Laban Quezon City Council at sa National Alliance of Broadcast Unions (NABU) sa kanilang napakahalagang endorsement. These endorsements show that our good governance efforts did not go unnoticed. At the same time, the vote of confidence definitely serves as a big boost for my bid to win a fresh three-year term. Kapag tayo’y nabigyan ng panibagong mandato, maipagpapatuloy natin ang mga nasimulan nating programa at mga proyekto sa ating unang termino bilang mayor,” Mayor Belmonte said.
Belmonte earlier obtained the highest satisfaction rating among Metro Manila mayors in the recent survey conducted by RP-Mission and Development Foundation Inc. (RPMD), owing to her various accomplishments, especially in terms of good governance and COVID-19 response.
In Belmonte’s first term, the Quezon City government earned an “unqualified opinion” from the Commission on Audit (COA) for the first time in its history for its annual audit report for year 2020.
The unqualified opinion is the highest audit opinion that COA can render to a government agency, including a local government unit (LGU).
Under Belmonte’s leadership, the city government also focused on the vaccination of QCResidents so as to prevent the spread of COVID-19. As of March 21, the number of fully vaccinated adults and minors in Quezon City reached 2,388,209.
Furthermore, Quezon City is now classified very low when it comes to COVID-19 risk level. As of March 21, 2022, the city only has 215 active cases and an average of 22 cases per day from March 15 to 21, 2022.
