The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) responded to an injured Chinese crew member aboard a Chinese-flagged vessel anchored off Homonhon Island in Guiuan, Eastern Samar.
The PCG received the report at around 11:14 a.m. from the ship agent of M/V Yin Nian, who said the crew member had suffered an injury above his left eye after being struck by a pulley chain during hatch-closing operations.
PCG personnel promptly went to the vessel to verify the incident and assess the crew member’s condition while coordinating with the ship’s master.
The master told the PCG that the injured crew member would remain aboard the vessel, where the ship’s medical personnel would provide treatment and continue monitoring his condition.
M/V Yin Nian is expected to sail for China after completing its loading operations. Coast Guard Station Southeastern Samar will continue coordinating with the vessel’s master and ship agent and monitor the situation until the vessel safely leaves the area.
PCG Commandant Admiral Ronnie Gil Gavan said the prompt response underscored the Coast Guard’s readiness to assist mariners during emergencies.
“Our personnel immediately proceeded to the vessel to verify the situation and coordinate directly with its master,” Gavan said. He added that Coast Guard personnel remained on standby should assistance become necessary.
