CLARK, Pampanga — Park Inn by Radisson Clark, operated by SM Hotels & Conventions Corporation (SMHCC), has received a Special Award for Innovative Use of Technology at the Department of Energy’s (DOE) 5th Energy Efficiency Excellence Awards, recognizing the hotel’s technology-driven approach to energy efficiency and conservation.
The DOE cited the hotel’s adoption of a shared cooling infrastructure, which allows it to source chilled water from an offsite central plant rather than operating its own chiller equipment. The system enables lower energy consumption, stable indoor climate control, and reduced maintenance requirements.
SMHCC said the initiative, supported by energy-efficient cooling components such as constant flow valves, delivers annual energy savings exceeding 240,000 kilowatt-hours, preventing an estimated 174 metric tons of carbon emissions each year.
“This award reflects our commitment to integrating sustainability into the core of our developments,” said Eric Uy, senior vice president for project management and technical support services at SMHCC. He noted that the property was designed with energy efficiency in mind from the outset, rather than being retrofitted to meet award criteria.
The recognition supports SMHCC’s Road to Net Zero by 2040 and positions Park Inn by Radisson Clark as a benchmark for energy-efficient hotel operations in the Philippines, the company said.
