A TOP Malacañang official has admitted that the government has been distributing virgin coconut oil (VCO) to patients suffering from COVID-19, pending results of the clinical trials on its use as adjunctive treatment.
In a radio interview, Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles said that the government distributed VCOs to patients billeted in three Metro Manila hospitals adding that 61 of those patients agreed to use it.
Nograles, who is concurrent co-chairman of the Inter-Agency Task Force Against COVID-19, however clarified that the government is giving VCOs only to patients suffering from mild cases of infection.
The Department of Science and Technology has yet to wrap up clinical trials for the use of VCO as adjunctive treatment.
“Yung adjunctive ay pangdagdag na makabilis sa recovery. Hindi siya parang bakuna na ‘pag uminom ka hindi ka na magkakaroon pero tataas ang inyong immunity level kasi may anti-viral properties siya,” Nograles was quoted as saying during the interview.
