THE Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has collected up to 841.34 tons of garbage since November 22 from different areas in Marikina City and San Mateo in Rizal, both affected by widespread flooding caused by typhoon Ulysses.
MMDA Chairman Danilo Lim said the cleanup and operation will continue until the areas are clean and safe.
“Our personnel shall continue rendering assistance to affected residents until local government units ’rehabilitation works are completed. We are always ready to help in restoring normally in the affected communities,” said the former rebel soldier.
At least 150 MMDA “cleaners” have been assigned to assist the local governments of Marikina City and San Mateo in their clearing operation.
The MMDA also sent equipment such as dump trucks, and pay loaders, for use in clearing operations.
Lim said he will continue to provide assistance to the affected residents until the rehabilitation of the LGUs is completed and the normal situation is restored.
Among the affected barangays of Marikina City are in Barangays Malanday, Sto. Niño and Tañong, specifically Provident Village, while in San Mateo are in Barangays Guitnang Bayan, Banaba, and Sta. Ana.
Francis Martinez, MMDA Metro parkways Clearing Group head, said it will take several weeks before the garbage and mud in Marikina and San Mateo are completely removed and cleaned.
