Over 1,000 traditional jeepneys will ply Metro Manila starting tomorrow

More than 1,000 traditional jeepneys will now be allowed to travel the streets of Metro Manila starting tomorrow (Wednesday, Nov. 18) with the opening of an additional eight routes, according to the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB).

A total of 1,043 jeepney drivers had given a ‘go signal’ for them to be able to earn a living after 7 months of no work since lockdown begun on March this year because of the pandemic.

In accordance with Memorandum Circular (MC) 2020-073 submitted by LTFRB yesterday, Nov. 16, agrees that jeepneys can travel again after the opening of 8 additional routes includes:

– T181 Evergreen Subdivision – Bagong Silang / Evergreen Subdivision – Philcoa

Roadworthy PUVs can travel with a valid and existing Certificate of Public Convenience (CPC) or Application for Extension of Validity, and each unit must be registered with the Personal Passenger Insurance Policy on the routes contained in the MC.

In lieu of the Special Permit (SP), a QR Code will be issued to each operator that must be placed on short bond paper and posted on PUV.

The QR Code can be downloaded from the LTFRB official website (https://ltfrb.gov.ph/).

The agency reiterates that there will be no fare hike for such TPUJs, unless ordered by the LTFRB.

The LTFRB also reminds TPUJs to follow agency policies.

Anyone caught violating the MC’s provisions will be subject to the appropriate penalties, such as a fine and removal of their CPC or PA.
