Olongapo City underwent a scheduled 12-hour power interruption from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m today, March 16, 2015 as announced by the Olongapo Electricity Distribution Company (OEDC).

The outage was implemented to facilitate technical maintenance. Coinciding with an intense heatwave, the power interruption significantly impacted daily life, prompting residents to seek relief in various locations.
Many locals vacated their homes, finding refuge under trees and in parking areas within the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) zone. Shopping malls and establishments inside SBMA experienced increased foot traffic as people sought the comfort of air conditioning. Additionally, numerous residents opted to stay in resorts and beaches until power was restored.

Businesses adapted to the situation by offering special promotions. For instance, Subic Bay Hostel and Dormitory announced a “Power Interruption Sale” for March 16, encouraging residents to stay comfortable and connected during the city-wide power outage. Similarly, Crown Peak Subic promoted their services as a respite during the power interruption, inviting residents to enjoy their facilities amidst the outage.
These recurring power outages highlight the challenges faced by Olongapo City residents, especially during periods of extreme heat. The community’s adaptability and resilience are evident as they find ways to cope during such interruptions.
