A DAY after dissolving the Philippine National Police – Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PNP-PDEA) joint investigation panel, President Rodrigo Duterte asked Congress to delay its investigation into the shootout between elements of the PNP and PDEA.
In a press briefing, presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said that the idea of asking Congress to set aside its “investigation in aid of legislation” is to give the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) an unhampered and impartial probe as to what really happened in the bloody encounter that resulted in the death of five operatives.
Duterte on Friday ordered the NBI to look into the events that led to the shootout.
Both the PNP and the PDEA claim legitimacy of their buy-bust operations.
