THE new Slaughterhouse, Animal Shelter, and Pet Clinic in Vitas, Tondo, Manila, has officially opened to the public.
Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan led the inauguration of this facility, which aims to benefit the entire city.
The new facility will help ensure a fresh supply of meat and proper care for animals.
According to Mayor Lacuna-Pangan, the facility is expected to enhance the quality and freshness of meat sold in Manila’s markets. All pork and beef sold in the city’s public markets will be certified by meat inspection representatives.
Meanwhile, the Manila Animal Shelter and City Pound will provide free services for pets, such as check-ups, treatment, and vaccinations, including rabies shots.
Dr. Nicanor Santos Jr., OIC of the City Veterinary and Meat Inspection Board, added that the new facility is fully air-conditioned and equipped with modern amenities.
The Manila LGU will also round up stray animals like dogs and cats, who will be taken to the City Pound, where they will receive proper care and can be adopted by capable owners.
The new animal shelter and city pound also includes a crematorium, providing a dignified option for deceased animals without the need for unregulated burial.
