New RFID updates from Waze

in order for more Filipinos to enjoy convenient trips, road driving platform Waze announced a series of RFID updates on the app to help provide better routes for users.

Thanks in large part to the dedicated and passionate Waze Community Map Editors, the updates will provide users with better navigation and will ensure that maps are always correct since they are updated accordingly to reflect changes on the roads.

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) recently mandated toll road operators to implement a cashless and contactless payment scheme in order to help fight COVID-19.

This means motorists are now required to have radio-frequency identification (RFID) stickers installed on their vehicles. The new Waze feature allows drivers with an RFID sticker to add their local passes such as AutoSweep and EasyTrip on the app by adding it on the Toll and HOV passes settings. It will also route them to toll roads that are accessible to their registered passes.

To enable HOV and Toll road routing:

  1. Tap Search, then Settings
  2. Tap Toll & HOV passes.
  3. Add which local passes you have.

An RFID notification badge will pop-up on the app ahead of a drive to encourage users to update their passes settings and add in their RFID badges, if they already have one. If the driver opted out, the app will then direct them to routes that will avoid tollways.

Waze continues to help Filipinos whether on or off the road. Drivers are highly encouraged to take precautions, follow local guidelines, and report real-time accidents, hazards, blocked roads, weather conditions and more that will help fellow Wazers safely reach their destinations.

This feature is available on Android and iOS. For more information visit Waze.com.
