A new daily record of COVID-19 cases was established in Germany as the virus continues to wreak havoc on this European nation.
The Robert Koch Institute, Germany’s disease control and prevention center, said that 23,300 new COVID-19 cases were reported overnight, nearly 2,000 more than the previous day’s record of 21,506 cases.
It was the first time for Germany to register more than 20,000 cases in a single day while 130 people perished also on a single day.
However, this remains significantly lower compared to the 315 deaths recorded in a day back in April at the onset of the pandemic.
Overall, the country has already recorded a total of 642,488 COVID-19 cases and registered 11,226 deaths since the start of the pandemic.
With the new reported cases, the German federal government decided to impose a one-month partial lockdown that started Monday. This means food establishments, even leisure and sports facilities, will remain closed except for shops and schools.
