THE Department of Health (DOH) reported that new COVID-19 infections today slid slightly to 29,828 cases compared to yesterday’s 30,552 based on the DOH COVID-19 Case Bulletin issued January 23, 2022.
This pushed the total number of COVID-19 infections in the country to 3,417,216 cases.
Active cases, on the other hand, also went down to 273,580 today from yesterday’s 280,619 cases. Active cases are patients undergoing treatment in government hospitals and temporary quarantine facilities.
However, recoveries from COVID-19 today slid to 36,763 cases from yesterday’s high 41,471 count. Overall, COVID-19 recoveries in the country is now at 3,090,164 cases.
COVID-19 fatalities also went down to 67 from yesterday’s 97 to bring the total COVID-19 deaths to 53,472.
Positivity rate today also went down to 41.8 percent from yesterday’s 45.1 percent with 69,014 people tested.
Also, 98.2 percent of the cases were mild and asymptomatic, the DOH bulletin noted.
A total of 136 duplicates were removed from the total case count, with 78 counted as recoveries and one is a death.
There were also 22 cases tagged earlier as recoveries but were reclassified as deaths upon final validation.
All laboratories were operational on January 21, 2022, but two laboratories were able to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System (CDRS). According to data in the last 14 days, the two laboratories contribute, on average, 0 percent of samples tested and 0 percent of positive individuals.
The agency continues to remind the public not to become complacent and continue to be vigilant against the threat of COVID-19 and make it a habit to follow the minimum public health standards and to always wear face masks, and also face shields whenever necessary, maintain physical distancing and washing of hands. The DOH also reiterates that the safety of the country is everyone’s responsibility, and that by helping each other, the country will overcome this COVID-19 pandemic.
