New COVID-19 cases today move up to 13k; active cases continue to rise

THE Department of Health (DOH) recorded a total of 13,177 new COVID-19 cases today, a new high compared to yesterday’s 12,439 total, according to the latest DOH COVID-19 Case Bulletin issued today, August 13, 2021.

Today’s case count is the highest since April 2, 2021 and the second biggest since the pandemic began.

Positivity rate went up further to 23.6 percent with 57,355 people who were tested.

With the additional cases today, the total number of COVID-19 infections in the country is now at 1,713,302, while active cases rose further to 96,395 from yesterday’s 87,663 count. Active cases or patients are those undergoing treatment in government hospitals and temporary quarantine facilities.

A total of 299 COVID-19 deaths were registered today, which is higher than yesterday’s 165 total. The total number of COVID-19 fatalities is now at 29,838.

The DOH also logged 4,322 new recoveries from the COVID-19 disease today, lower than the 6,090 recoveries posted yesterday.

Currently, there are now 1,587,069 individuals listed as total recoveries.

Majority, or 96.8 percent of the cases, are mild and asymptomatic.

A total of 238 duplicates were removed from the total case count, of which 229 were recoveries.

Also, 10 cases earlier tagged as recoveries were validated as active cases, and 175 cases tagged earlier as recoveries were reclassified as deaths upon final validation.

All laboratories were operational on August 11, 2021 while four laboratories were not able to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System (CDRS). Based on data in the last 14 days, the four non-reporting laboratories contribute, on average, 2.1 percent of samples tested and 1.5 percent of positive individuals.

The agency continues to remind the public to ensure their safety and to strictly observe safety protocols and to have themselves vaccinated as soon as possible. The DOH also reiterates that the safety of the country is everyone’s responsibility, and that by helping each other, the country will overcome this COVID-19 pandemic.
