New COVID-19 cases back to 1k level with 1,153 infections recorded today

THE Department of Health (DOH) logged only 1,153 new COVID-19 infections today, higher than yesterday’s 984, according to the DOH COVID-19 Case Bulletin issued today, November 23, 2021.

This brings the total number of COVID-19 infections in the country to 2,827,820 cases.

Active cases, on the other hand, were down to 18,721 cases today compared to yesterday’s 19,798 count. Active cases or patients are those undergoing treatment in government hospitals and temporary quarantine facilities.

Recoveries from COVID-19 today, meanwhile, went down slightly to 2,182 from yesterday’s 2,229 count. Overall, COVID-19 recoveries in the country have reached a total of 2,761,617 cases.

The DOH also logged 195 deaths today, lower than the 218 recorded yesterday to bring the total COVID-19 deaths to 47,482.

Positivity rate today, meanwhile, was lower at 2.3 percent based on 25,562 people who were tested.

Around 59.9 percent of the cases were mild and asymptomatic, the DOH bulletin noted.

A total of 99 duplicates were removed from the total case count, of which 94 were recoveries and there was one death.

There were also 87 cases found to have tested negative and also were removed from the total case count. Of these, 68 were recoveries.

However, 170 cases earlier tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths upon final validation.

Two laboratories were not operational on November 21, 2021 while eight laboratories were not able to submit its data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System (CDRS). Based on data in the last 14 days, the ten non-reporting laboratories contributed, on average, 2.0 percent of samples tested and 2.2 percent of positive individuals.

The agency continues to remind the public not to become complacent and continue to be vigilant against the threat of COVID-19 and make it a habit to follow the minimum public health standards and to always wear face masks, and also face shields whenever necessary, maintain physical distancing and washing of hands. The DOH also reiterates that the safety of the country is everyone’s responsibility, and that by helping each other, the country will overcome this COVID-19 pandemic.
