SEVENTY-FIVE percent of the one million COVID-19 vaccine doses that the country has bought from China would be for the exclusive use of the areas under a reloaded hard lockdown.

Interviewed over the radio, Department of Health (DOH) Undersecretary Myrna Cabotaje said that President Rodrigo Duterte has already approved the recommendation of the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) to allocate 75 percent of the purchased one million CoronaVac doses to Metro Manila and the adjoining provinces of Rizal, Laguna, Cavite and Bulacan.

The government is expecting the arrival of the one million China-made vaccines on Monday, March 29.

Cabotaje underscored the need for the government to promptly address the exponential increase in the number of COVID-19 cases in NCR Plus.

The 75 percent of the one million vaccines which will arrive on Monday will remain in the NCR plus bubble to give a little protection to our citizens,” Cabotaje said.

Earlier, presidential spokesperson Secretary Harry Roque said Duterte will fly from Davao after spending his 76th birthday to personally welcome the arrival of the one million Sinovac vaccines from China.

We also agreed to conduct simultaneous vaccination. While we are finishing the inoculation of our healthcare workers, we can start vaccinating AstraZeneca to our senior citizens and the Sinovac vaccines will be given to those who have comorbidities so that we can cover more in the NCR plus bubble,” Cabotaje said.

On Saturday, Malacanang declared that Metro Manila together with Bulacan, Cavite, Luzon and Rizal, will be placed under Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) starting Monday, 29 March to 4 April, which is expected to address the continued increase of coronavirus infections.

Because Metro Manila plus bubble is considered as a hotspot, we will concentrate our vaccination in the NCR, and then Region 3 especially in Bulacan and Region IV-A that are included in the bubble, like Laguna, Cavite and Rizal and we also covered Batangas as COVID cases in the province have started to increase,” she added.
