THE National Bureau of Investigation – Easter Visayas Regional Office (NBI-EVRO) nabbed an individual who passed off himself as a dentist in Abuyog, Leyte.
NBI Officer-In-Charge (OIC) Director Eric Distor identified the suspect as Alvin Sy Caminong.
Distor said the NBI received information about someone practicing dentistry in Abuyog, Leyte without a license to practice from the government.
The NBI then conducted a surveillance operation in the area and discovered Sy practicing dentristy with pay in his house in Brgy. Nalibunan, Albayog, Leyte.
The NBI-EVRO requested a certification from the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) in Manila regarding the suspect practicing dentistry without a license.
Based on the certification released by the PRC, the name of Sy did not appear in their database as a registered dentist authorized to practice dentistry in the Philippines.
The NBI then mounted an entrapment operation against the suspect after attending to two agents from the NBI-EVRO who pretended to be patients.
Violation of Article 5, Section 33 of R.A. 9484 or the Philippine Dental Act of 2007 will be filed against the suspect.
