National Media and prison inmates gear up for 9-Ball Billiards showdown in Pampanga

ANGELES CITY—In an unprecedented display of camaraderie and competition, the first-ever “National Media vs. Kosa 9-Ball Billiards Tournament” is set to make history on December 16 at the Angeles City District Jail. Organized by the Camp Olivas PNP Press Corps (COPPC) and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology 3 (BJMP3), the event will see media professionals and persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) come together for a friendly face-off.

The tournament, expected to draw up to 300 media players from the National Capital Region and Central Luzon and 200 PDLs, will feature three categories: Class A, Class B, and a Women’s Division. However, due to the unavailability of female PDL participants, women will compete in the Class B category.

COPPC President Franco Regala expressed enthusiasm about the event, calling on billiards enthusiasts to join this unique initiative. “This is a chance for us to connect with our PDL brothers, enjoy the game, and share some Christmas cheer,” he said.

The competition will commence with eliminations on December 16, with the finals set for December 19 at the Pampanga Provincial Jail. The top Class A media player will battle the top Class A PDL player for the ultimate championship, with the same format for Class B.

The tournament boasts enticing prizes:

Class A Champion: Trophy & ₱10,000

Class A 1st Runner-Up: Trophy & ₱5,000

Class B Champion: Trophy & ₱10,000

Class B 1st Runner-Up: Trophy & ₱5,000

Adding to the event’s prestige, high-ranking officials from Police Regional Office 3 are expected to attend, with VIPs delivering messages and performing the ceremonial break.

Registration, open from December 11 to 15, comes with a ₱700 fee, inclusive of lunch and snacks. Interested players can reach out via 09946843276 for more details.

Don’t miss this landmark event—a testament to sportsmanship and the power of community to bridge divides during the season of giving.
