The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has launched legal action against a motorcycle rider who struck an agency enforcer while attempting to flee after being flagged down for a traffic violation along Marcos Highway in Brgy. Inarawan, Antipolo City.
LTO Chief, Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza directed LTO-CALABARZON Regional Director Elmer Decena to provide regular updates on both the criminal and administrative cases filed against the suspect, identified as Roger Ymas.
“Respect for law enforcers is a fundamental requirement for obtaining a driver’s license. This rider’s blatant disregard for authority is unacceptable, and I will personally ensure that he faces the consequences of his actions,” said Asec. Mendoza.
Incident Details
According to a report from RD Decena, the incident occurred around 10:00 AM in front of St. Anthony Parish Church along Marcos Highway. LTO enforcers flagged down Ymas after he was seen riding without a helmet. Instead of stopping, he attempted to evade authorities, making a fast U-turn, during which he collided with an LTO enforcer and crashed. He was subsequently arrested and taken to the local police station, along with his motorcycle.
Additional Charges Filed
An updated report revealed that Ymas has been charged with violating Republic Act (RA) 4136 (Resistance and Disobedience to a Person in Authority). Additionally, after being taken into custody, authorities discovered suspected illegal drugs in his possession. The substance inside the confiscated plastic sachets was later confirmed to be shabu, leading to an additional charge under Section 11 of RA 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act).
Current Status
Ymas remains detained at the Antipolo Police Station, facing multiple charges. The LTO warns motorists to comply with traffic regulations and respect law enforcers, emphasizing that attempts to evade apprehension or resist authorities will be met with strict legal consequences.
