OVER 600,000 teachers passed their application to acquire “digital signatures” to be used for the upcoming national and local elections on May 9, 2022.
This was announced by Commission on Elections (Comelec) Commissioner Marlon Casquejo during the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the Comelec, the Department of Education (DepEd) and the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).
According to Casquejo, the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) is still in the process of approving applications for digital signatures, an important feature to ensure transparency and security regarding the transmission of voting results.
However, Casquejo clarified that not all teacher applicants will be able to serve during the May 9, 2022 elections.
Meanwhile, according to DepEd Undersecretary Alain Pascua, based on the agency’s available statistics, there are about 681,283 DepEd teachers and personnel submitted their application for digital signatures.
Just like what Casquejo explained, Pascua clarified that not all teachers will serve during the elections but they needed to ensure that those who will render service are ready and that they already have their digital signatures.
