More than 100k jobless Pinoys back to work during Alert Level 2 — DTI

AN estimated 100,000 jobless Filipinos now have–and will soon have–jobs after the alert level status of the National Capital Region (NCR) was de-escalated to Alert Level 2.

According to Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Secretary Ramon Lopez, about 1.8 million individuals around the country lost their jobs after the implementation of quarantine restrictions.

Out of that number, 100,000 remain jobless.

The total affected was about 1.8 million and because of the de-escalation of alert level cases, before it became Alert Level 2 was around 100,000,” Lopez averred.

“Around 100,000 more or less, so these are whom we expect to go back to work now that we’re in Alert Level 2. Bottom line here is that they can be part again of economic activities,” Lopez added.

Under Alert Level 2, establishments are allowed to operate under a 50-percent capacity if indoors and an additional 10 percent if the establishment has a Safety Seal, while outdoor capacity is at 70 percent.

Included in our guidelines is that each establishment will assign health and safety protocol officers. That is their responsibility,” Lopez said.

The National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) earlier said that the de-escalation to Alert Level 2 would mean an increase in Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of about P3.6 billion each week.
