Military lawyer found dead in Camp Aguinaldo quarters

THE Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has confirmed the death of Colonel Rolando Escalona Jr., a senior military lawyer, whose lifeless body was discovered in his quarters at Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City, early Friday morning, November 22.

In a statement released on Sunday, November 24, AFP spokesperson Colonel Francel Margareth Padilla expressed condolences to the late officer’s family.

“We extend our deepest condolences to the family of Colonel Escalona during this difficult time,” she said.

Escalona served as a Colonel under the Judge Advocate General Service (JAGS), the legal arm of the AFP.

His nomination to the rank was approved by the Commission on Appointments in March 2021, underscoring his role as a key legal counsel within the military.

The circumstances surrounding Escalona’s death remain unclear, and the AFP has not provided further details as investigations continue.

The tragic incident has cast a somber mood over Camp Aguinaldo as colleagues and friends await more information on the cause of death.
