Masked gunman fires at town secretary’s home in Zambales, leaves threatening letter

A masked man opened fire at the home of a municipal secretary in Palauig, Zambales, on Monday night, prompting an investigation by local authorities.

According to a report, the victim was identified as Glenn Elayda, 59, the municipal secretary to the mayor of Masinloc. Elayda resides in Barangay Salaza, Palauig.

Initial investigation revealed the incident occurred around 10 p.m. while Elayda and his family were inside the house.

They reportedly heard multiple gunshots outside but chose not to investigate immediately and went to bed.

The following morning, the family discovered that the main door of their house had been riddled with bullets. They promptly reported the incident to the police.

A witness, a neighbor of the Elaydas, told investigators he saw a motorcycle-riding man wearing a full-face mask stop in front of the house and fire several rounds at the gate before fleeing the scene.

Responding officers recovered eight spent shells from a .45 caliber firearm, along with a letter bearing a black ribbon—interpreted as a possible threat.

Police are currently reviewing CCTV footage in the vicinity to identify the suspect and determine the motive behind the attack.
