Manila, Philippines – President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has extended the term of Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil by four months, Malacañang announced Thursday.
According to a Presidential Communications Office statement, Marcos approved the extension through a memorandum dated Feb. 4, 2025, signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin.
Marbil was originally set to retire on Feb. 7, 2025, upon reaching the mandatory retirement age of 56. However, the President had previously hinted at prolonging his tenure to maintain stability and security during the upcoming midterm elections.
Ensuring a Smooth Electoral Process
Marbil, the 30th PNP chief, is a graduate of the Philippine Military Academy’s Sambisig Class of 1991. He assumed command of the PNP on April 1, 2024.
“The four-month extension will allow us to refine and improve the preparations we have made for the elections,” Marbil stated.
His extended leadership is expected to ensure continuity in police operations, particularly in securing a peaceful and orderly electoral process in 2025.
