THE Manila Police District (MPD) said a total of 143 individuals in the City of Manila were reported as victims of firecracker-related injuries during revelries as the city ushered in the new year.
According to the MPD, 14 of the victims were still in hospitals as of January 1, 2024.
The top three areas with the highest number of firecracker-related injuries were Raxabago Police Station in Tondo with 33 cases, followed by Sampaloc Police Station 4 with a total of 29, and Sta. Ana Police Station 6 at third with 19 cases.
The MPD also noted that they did not monitor any illegal discharging of firearms during the New Year’s Day celebration.
Meanwhile, more than P78,000 worth of various illegal firecrackers that were being sold in various streets of the city were confiscated by the police.
Among those seized were 500 rounds of “Sawa,” Pla-Pla, Kingkong, Kwitis, Special Bawang, and Fountains.
