Man dead after jumping from LRT-1 Fernando Poe Jr. station platform

MANILA, Philippines — A male individual died on Wednesday morning after jumping from the platform level of the LRT-1 Fernando Poe Jr. (formerly Roosevelt) Station down to the street level of EDSA, rail operator Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) confirmed.

The incident occurred at approximately 10:30 AM. Based on LRMC’s initial investigation, the individual leaped from the station onto the busy highway below.

LRMC security and safety teams responded to the scene immediately, alongside local authorities who took over the investigation. The individual was pronounced dead on-site by responding officials due to the severity of the fall.

Despite the incident, the LRMC assured the commuting public that train services were not disrupted.

LRT-1 operations were not affected by the incident and remain fully operational,” the company stated in an official release.

The LRMC expressed its “deepest sympathies” to the family of the deceased and stated that it is fully cooperating with the ongoing police investigation.

The operator also took the opportunity to remind passengers to adhere to the rail line’s safety protocols. “We remain steadfast in our commitment to providing safe and reliable transportation. We appeal to the riding public to strictly follow all safety rules and regulations implemented within LRT-1 premises,” the LRMC added.
