Malacañang orders One-Year suspension of Urdaneta City Mayor and Vice Mayor for Grave Misconduct

Malacañang has issued a one-year suspension order against Mayor Julio Parayno III and Vice Mayor Jimmy Parayno of Urdaneta City for Grave Misconduct and Grave Abuse of Authority in relation to OP-DC Case No. 22-K-090, titled “Michael Brian M. Perez vs. Mayor Julio F. Parayno and Vice Mayor Jimmy D. Parayno.”

The officials are suspended from office for a total of 12 months, with each offense carrying a penalty of five months as mandated by law.

The case stemmed from the suspension of Barangay President and San Vicente Barangay Captain Michael Brian Perez on June 15, 2022, initiated by Mayor Parayno. Although the mayor later lifted the indefinite suspension, Perez was not reinstated as Liga ng mga Barangay President during a Sangguniang Panlungsod session on October 5, 2022.

This session took place a day after an election for a new Liga ng mga Barangay President, where Punong Barangay Cheryl Del Prado was elected.

The suspension order, dated January 7, 2025, is set to be served to the offices of Mayor Parayno and Vice Mayor Parayno immediately.
