LTFRB Chairperson Atty. Teofilo Guadiz III announced that a preventive suspension order will be issued against modern public utility jeepney (MPUJ) operator Carmexss TSC following a tragic collision involving one of its units and a tricycle in Pampanga. The accident claimed the lives of two passengers and injured several others.
“We have already coordinated with LTFRB Region 3 to conduct the investigation. I have given them 15 days to submit the results,” Guadiz stated. “We are issuing a preventive suspension to avoid preempting the ongoing investigation,” he added.
According to a police report, the incident occurred on January 14, 2025, around 2 p.m., when the MPUJ allegedly attempted to overtake another vehicle. In doing so, it collided with an oncoming tricycle. The force of the impact caused both vehicles to fall off the bridge, killing the tricycle driver and one of the three passengers.
Among the injured were two other tricycle passengers and several jeepney passengers, many of whom were students.
The LTFRB clarified that once the preventive suspension is issued, the involved unit will be prohibited from operating for 30 days pending the outcome of the investigation.
Guadiz reiterated the importance of strict compliance with traffic regulations to ensure public safety. “Reckless driving and negligence not only endanger lives but also result in severe penalties, including preventive suspensions and potential franchise revocation,” he emphasized.
He also urged public utility vehicle operators to monitor their drivers’ adherence to road safety standards to avoid similar tragedies. “The safety of passengers and other road users must always be the top priority,” Guadiz concluded.
