LRTA chief Berroya dead at 74 years old

LIGHT Rail Transport Authority (LRTA) administrator Reynaldo Berroya, who is also retired police general, died today, November 15, 2021.

This was announced by Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Art Tugade via a Facebook post on Monday.

Berroya was 74 years old.

Berroya’s actual cause of death was not mentioned.

“It is with profound sadness and sorrow that we bid adieu to one of the most courageous and dedicated public servant and defender of the Republic, Gen. Reynaldo Berroya, Administrator of the Light Rail Transport Authority (LRTA),” Tugade said in his post.

“On behalf of the entire staff, officers and sectors of the Department of Transportation (DOTr), and also of my own family, I convey my utmost condolences and solicitude to the family and loved ones left behind by Gen Berroya,” Tugade added.

Berroya, who was named LRTA administrator back in 2017, was a former intelligence chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP) and served under Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, and headed the anti-kidnapping task force of the defunct Presidential Anti-Crime Commission (PACC) headed by then-Vice President Joseph Estrada.
