The Quezon City Police District (QCPD), under the leadership of PCOL Melecio Buslig Jr., successfully apprehended a couple involved in a motorcycle theft incident through the efforts of the District Anti-Carnapping Unit (DACU) led by PLTCOL Hector Ortencio.
The suspects, identified as Romeo Mafe, 41, a pedicab driver, and Melissa Hernandez, 52, an online agent—both residents of Brgy. Payatas, Quezon City—were arrested for stealing a Yamaha NMAX motorcycle (2019 model, plate number 531-NTO) from the parking lot of SOGO Hotel along Timog Avenue, Brgy. South Triangle, on March 27, 2025, at 10:30 PM.
Following the victim’s prompt report to DACU on March 28, authorities swiftly launched an operation at 1:55 AM on March 29 at the suspects’ residence, leading to their arrest and the recovery of the stolen motorcycle.
Background checks revealed that Mafe had a previous violation of P.D. 1602 (Anti-Gambling Law) in 2023, while Hernandez had prior cases for violating R.A. 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002) in 2021 and P.D. 1602 in 2023.
The suspects have been charged under Republic Act 10883, or the New Anti-Carnapping Act of 2016, before the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office.
