ANGELES CITY – Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin, Jr. is ordering the closure of all public and private cemeteries in the city from October 30 until November 2, 2020 to prevent the possible spread of COVID-19.

Lazatin understands that this is far from the traditional All Saint’s Day and All Soul’s Day observance, but he is appealing to his constituents to just pray and light candles for their departed loved ones at their respective homes, to avoid the holding of public gatherings.

“While the city government respects the Filipino tradition of remembering our departed loved ones, the mass gathering of people in these particular days poses danger and may spread disease due to lack of social distancing,” Lazatin said in his issued Executive Order (EO) No. 19 on September 8, 2020.

Meanwhile, the city government is also encouraging Angeleños to consider alternative dates to visit the cemetery and honor their departed loved ones.

Lazatin reiterated that this is one of the efforts of the city government to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, as the city faces a surge in the number of COVID-19 cases.
