Law enforcement capability enhanced through ICT with DICT and PNP memorandum

THE Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that seeks to enhance the law enforcement capability of the country’s national police.

The MOU formalized collaboration between the two agencies in areas that include intelligence sharing, joint cyber incidence response, capacity building, and exchange of best practices and technical expertise.

Aside from the MOU signing, an app jointly developed by the DICT and PNP, the iReport app, was also launched.

iReport app enables the receipt and response to crime reports from citizens through their mobile phones. The app will be integrated in the eReport feature of the eGovPH superapp, the Philippine government’s only one-stop-shop platform that allows Filipinos to access key local and government services.

PNP Chief Police General Benjamin Acorda, Jr., DICT Secretary Ivan John Uy, and Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Undersecretary Oscar Valenzuela led the MOU signing ceremony at Camp BGen. Rafael T. Crame in Quezon City.

Uy expects the partnership between the DICT and PNP to revolutionize the way government ensures public safety and security.

This collaboration represents a significant step forward in our commitment to leverage the potential of ICT in enhancing the capabilities of law enforcement agencies and promoting a safer society,” Uy said.

For his part, Acorda said that the MOU serves as the cornerstone of a dynamic and mutually beneficial partnership between the PNP and the DICT that will result in a safe and secure digital space for Filipinos.

This collective understanding will not only foster integration, interoperability, and interconnection between our respective systems and applications, but also ensure reciprocal enrichment and interdependence,” Acorda said.

During the event, the PNP also feted individuals who contributed to its digitalization efforts, which included Undersecretary for E-Government David Almirol, Jr., OIC Director IV June Vincent Manuel Gaudan, Information Technology Officer I Ludivia Genio and Aeia Joy Minas of the Office of the Undersecretary for E-Government.
