Laguna’s chief of Public Information, 6 others nabbed in anti-illegal gambling operation

Nothing is sanctified on the illegal gambling campaign of the new leadership of the Philippine National Police (PNP) when the chief of Public Information of Laguna Governor Ramil Hernandez was arrested along with 6 other in a police operation in Calamba City.  

According to City’s Chief of Police Lt. Col. Gene Licud, among those arrested were Christopher Sanji, 42, concurrent Public Information Office (PIO) head of Governor Hernandez and a resident of Barangay Parian; Dorothy Ivy Tan Luster, 37; Alejandro Delgado Arida, 65; Connie Hipolito Deseo, 48; Epifania Orso Manguiat, 55; Arlene Alipio Urza, 31 and Francisco Panganiban Suizo, 50, all residents of the city.

Licud said the individuals were caught playing mahjong and tong-its, a famous Pinoy card game, in DNE Subdivision, Barangay 3 when they were confronted by the operatives of the Calamba City Police Office around 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 11 at the height of Typhoon Ulysses.

Two tables used in mahjong and tong-it’s were recovered, as well as mahjong tiles, cards and bets worth 3,150 pesos.

Licud emphasized that the operation is part of the strict implementation of the anti-gambling campaign by the new PNP Chief Debold Sinas.

Sanji along with his gambling mates have been taken to the Calamba City Police Station and facing criminal charges in violation of Presidential Decree 1602 or Amended Republic Act 9287 or illegal gambling act.
