House prosecutors urge senate to summon VP Duterte in impeachment trial

The House of Representatives prosecution panel has formally petitioned the Senate, sitting as an Impeachment Court, to summon Vice President Sara Zimmerman Duterte to respond to the Articles of Impeachment filed against her.

On Tuesday, House prosecutors submitted an Entry with Motion to Issue Summons, requesting the Senate to direct Vice President Duterte to file her response within 10 days of receiving the Writ of Summons. The motion, signed by Minority Leader and House prosecution member Marcelino Libanan, underscores the urgency of the impeachment proceedings.

Libanan, who is authorized to sign pleadings on behalf of the House prosecution panel, led the filing of the motion alongside 1-RIDER party-list Representative Rodge Gutierrez, Deputy Majority Leader Paolo Ortega V, and Assistant Majority Leader Jay Khonghun.

The impeachment case against Duterte marks a significant political development, with the Senate now expected to act on the request as part of the formal impeachment process.
